WORLD CUP KICKED OFF! mexico tied with south africa. i normally hate soccer but a worldwide event just feels so internationally unifying. i like that sense of community on such a large scale.
why can’t more people share that desire for family and humanity? apparently the senator who drafted the Arizona Immigration Law is now planning on “re-writing” the constitution by drafting a new law stating that children born in the U.S. of illegal immigrants will not be granted American citizenship. This goes against the 14th amendment stating that:
“all persons, born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States.”
I cried over this law when i first read about it knowing the divide it would cause in Arizona communities where many, many Latin peoples would feel alienated and discriminated against merely for the color of their skin. I’ve always taken for granted how mixed our communities are in California and how i’m seen as “white” because of the way that i speak, dress, act, etc. but in other states that I visit i’m looked at with a stare i’ve only seen in movies or how some people will treat me differently or shove me out of the way a little too easily. People should not have to feel that way in their own home towns. They should have that feeling of home and comfort, they should have happiness.
If this bill they are drafting actually makes it past their congress, i’m joining every cause i can to make sure the supreme court can reverse it and inform the state of arizona that im going to fire bomb their faces with raging cases of herpes that i will contract in san francisco and rub on their lips while they sleep.
